RUSSIA UKRAINE KIEV 1853 MONEY LETTER: UNRECORDED KIEV POSTMARK

Kiev 1853 (18 January) – Domestic Money Letter for a declared value of 111 roubles 78 kopek, sent from Kiev to St Petersburg, with clerk handwritten calculations on front showing 110 roubles in banknotes (see manuscript "ассигнации") and 1,78 roubles in silver coins (see mansucript "серебром"). Postal fee of 20 kopek for one unit weight and an insurance fee of 1 rouble 12 kopek (tariff of 1st January 1844 : declared value of 1 rouble up to 1000 roubles in banknotes: 1%).

Five intact wax seals on reverse, including a superb central seal of KIEV POST OFFICE. Two fair strikes applied on departure of a previously unrecorded Kiev straight line handstamp (9x34 mm). Very Fine and attractive.

Scarce item with some uncatalogued postmark (unrecorded in Dobin, 1993)
