1863 Santiago to France via London - (Sc. 9; Mi.1IIf)
Transatlantic Mail via Panama & London: 1863, envelope to Bordeaux, France, bearing "Estancos" 5 c. red (touched at left), neatly tied by barred obliterator "CANCELLED" with adjacent large red "SANTIAGO 1 DEC 1863" cds despatch, and correctly prepaying the domestic rate from Santiago to the port of Valparaiso for onward overseas transmission. Carried under English contract in closed bags via Panama to London, where framed accountancy mark "GB / 2F 87 5c/10" was applied at the Foreign Office. On front French travelling post office handstamp and "12" (décimes) postage due on delivery, reverse transit and arrival marks. Fine and scarce combination of both British and French accounting markings. Signed Todd.
